NUST Community Service Mentor Ms. Sehrish Hamid Butt Won National “Mentor of the Year” Award for Student-Led Social Impact Initiatives
-Ms. Sehrish Hamid Butt, Manager at JSPPL’s Civic Engagement Centre was recently recognized as the Mentor of the Year at the national level by Al Khidmat Foundation Pakistan. Al Khidmat Foundation (est. 1990, leading aid in disasters, education, health & water across Pakistan). The award ceremony took place in Islamabad on May 6, 2026.
For the last 10 years at NUST, she’s built & taught NUST’s mandatory Community Service course—students pick partners for real impact projects. NUST topped Al Khidmat’s Annual student volunteer awards (only 3 unis recognized nationwide).
Her students’ wins: water plants in remote areas, Palestine relief, orphanage library, Ramazan Iftars, sewing machines for women breadwinners + more. The students credit her guidance—sole mentor award winner from any university across Pakistan. Invited / requested to help other universities across Pakistan to build stronger programs!
Impact comes in all sizes! NUST’s Community Service course lets students pick partners where their work matters—big or small. Beyond Al Khidmat’s big projects, a few student groups this semester helped Pak Fareezah Foundation (modest Rawalpindi group by university students, giving free education to underprivileged kids). A few groups of NUST’s community service course students tutored around 30 hours , lifting kids’ grades, confidence & growth. Motivated by their teacher Ms. Sehrish, it earned a thank-you letter from the foundation!
With NUST’s support and committed teachers, our Community Service students continue to create meaningful change — one project, one life at a time. From national collaborations to local community work, every small effort adds to a larger impact for Pakistan.
